Despite the Boston Red Sox sitting at a perfectly average 19-19 as we approach the quarter-mark of the MLB season, third baseman Alex Bregman has been on an absolute tear. Through his first 37 games in a Red Sox uniform, the 31-year-old is hitting .327 with nine home runs, 30 RBI, and a 1.093 OPS.

With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the seventh of a tie game, the Rangers elected to pitch to Bregman with first base open. Bregman — who’d already homered and doubled — made them regret the strategy, dumping a two-run single to left for the game-winning runs.

His 38 sinkers averaged 95.4 mph, up from his 94.3 mph season average, per Baseball Savant. He topped out at 97.3 mph. He induced eight swings and misses: six with his sweeper and one each with his sinker and splitter.
