An off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in a Manhattan park on Saturday following an apparent robbery gone wrong, New York City police and federal officials said.

Police say the off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer was shot during an attempted robbery under the George Washington Bridge at Riverside Park.

Authorities say the suspect was subject to a deportation order.
