Flooding, mudslides and debris flows caused by the heaviest rain in Los Angeles and southern California in a year shut Pacific Coast Highway from approximately Santa Monica to the Malibu Pier.

Officials are grappling with the aftermath of the atmospheric river which caused mudslides and floods, especially in areas impacted by wildfires.

Much of the Eastern U.S. braced for a renewed round of harsh, soggy weather on Saturday, with thunderstorms and melting snow combining to pound the Ohio and Tennessee valleys. The lower Mississippi valley was facing the threat of strong tornadoes.

San Mateo County was placed under a flood warning by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 4:36 a.m. The warning is in effect until 7:30 a.m.

A flood warning was issued by the NWS Raleigh NC on Thursday at 11:26 a.m. valid from 12 p.m. until Friday 1:45 a.m. for Anson and Stanly counties.

An updated flood warning was issued by the NWS Sacramento CA on Friday at 2:58 p.m. in effect until Saturday at 10 a.m. for Tehama County.
