Medical helicopters were called to Lake Martin after multiple people were injured Friday night when fireworks exploded on a boat, according to news and social media accounts. Few details were immediately available. There have been no reports of fatalities, according to the Tallapoosa County coroner.

Officials have identified a 70-year-old man who died from a fireworks incident on the Fourth of July, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office. The incident occurred at around 9:19 p.m. when police received a 911 call for a report of a person hit by a firework at 34 Beach St. in Wareham.

Data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows that 11 people nationwide died from fireworks last year, and thousands more were sent to the emergency room for injuries. "Always know where it's going to land. Light one at a time," said Salem Township Fire Chief Jim Rachwal.
