Two ski patrollers were caught in an avalanche Friday after heavy snowfall from a recent atmospheric river triggered a slide on Lincoln Mountain in California’s Sierra Nevada.

Two ski patrol staff at Mammoth Mountain were caught in an avalanche while doing mitigation work after an atmospheric river dropped about six feet of snow in 36 hours, Mammoth Mountain officials said.

February 16, 2025 – Mammoth Mountain officials report that at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2025, two Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol staff were caught in an avalanche on Lincoln Mountain.

Mammoth Mountain officials said the slide occurred during avalanche mitigation work following a significant Sierra Nevada snowstorm, during which about six feet of snow fell in 36 hours.
