Earlier this week, parts of New Hampshire experienced wind gusts of up to 60 mph. While the winds were strong, they were no match for the conditions at the summit of Mount Washington. Sign up for our Newsletters The Mount Washington Observatory recorded a peak wind gust of 161 mph on Monday.

It’s important to note that 161mph winds are relatively mild for Mount Washington, which still holds the record set in 1934 for highest wind speed ever recorded atop a mountain—231mph. The 161mph gust only managed to be the 19th highest daily gust the range has experienced. Winds would have to hit at least 170mph to break into the top 10 highest.

Wind gusts of more than 160 mph were recorded at the highest peak in New Hampshire on Monday. DOGE identified a nearly untraceable code linking payments to the U.S. Treasury to a budget line item, accounting for nearly $4.

Maine saw some pretty impressive wind gusts on Monday, with several communities topping 50 miles per hour, including Rangeley checking in at 61 miles per hour. But those gusts pale in comparison to the summit of Mount Washington.
