With Tanner McKee dealing with a finger injury, the Eagles are shoring up to their quarterback depth, acquiring Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday morning, a league source confirmed to the Inquirer.

After the season, Howell was traded to the Seattle Seahawks to serve as Geno Smith's backup. He got into two games and went 5-for-14 passing for 24 yards. Howell was then traded to the Vikings to serve as J.J. McCarthy's backup in April.

In return, the Vikings receive a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Philadelphia gets a 2026 sixth-round pick and Howell. Minnesota then signed backup Carson Wentz to sit behind J.J. McCarthy shortly after trading Howell.
