SOUTH CAROLINA, USA — Two more monkeys that escaped from a South Carolina medical research lab last week have been found and safely recovered, bringing the total returned to the facility to 32, according to the Yemassee Police Department and Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard.

A “sizeable group” remains active along the compound's fence line and bedded down in the trees, police in Yemassee, about 50 miles northeast of Savannah, Georgia, said in a statement.

Authorities announced Monday that five additional monkeys had been recovered after nearly four dozen escaped from a South Carolina research facility. Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard told Yemassee police that 30 of the 43 escaped rhesus macaques have returned to the Yemassee facility.

A research facility in Yemassee, S.C., has recovered 25 of the 43 monkeys that escaped from the laboratory last week after a caretaker accidentally left the door to their enclosure unsecured.

"AVOID FLYING DRONES" in the area, local police warned, after a UAV apparently spooked the primates and disrupted capture efforts.

More than half of the monkeys that escaped a medical research facility in Yemassee, South Carolina, last week have been recovered, but 18 remain on the loose. One was recaptured on Saturday and 24 more caught on Sunday.
