The Athens deer population is on the rise as warmer temperatures extend mating cycles, threatening ecosystems.

Last spring, a pair of resident bald eagles at the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge built their nest near the edge of Lake Lowell and waited for their young to hatch.
