Wiking said he began knapping, the art of chipping flint with metal or stone tools to form a point, in 1997. “The first time I knapped, something magical happened,” Wiking said.

The highlight was flint-knappers chipping a piece of flint into a weapon in 10 minutes competition. An estimated 4,000 visitors and 200 vendors attend the annual three-day event at Flint Ridge.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, a piece created by every vendor will be auctioned off to raise money for next year's knap-in. Proceeds go to the Flint Ridge Lithic Society, which organizes the annual event.
