A predawn Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian capital killed at least one civilian and injured four others on Wednesday, sparking several fires in the city of three million people, Ukrainian officials said.

Russia launched ballistic missiles and more than 100 drones in a wave of attacks across Ukraine overnight that killed three people and injured at least 16, including a child, authorities said.

Both Russia and Ukraine seek to gain advantages on the battlefield before possible negotiations to end the conflict. The contenders in the Ukraine war are focusing their attacks on the eastern front of the country,

The attack comes after president Zelensky suggested peace negotiations with Russia could include a territory swap.
