The health of Pope Francis remains unclear as the faithful have gathered in St. Peter’s Square nightly to pray for his recovery. The 88-year-old pontiff was hospitalized almost two weeks ago, suffering from double pneumonia and mild renal insufficiency.

Pope Francis “had a quiet night and is resting,” the Holy See Press Office informed journalists just after 8 a.m., Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, after his 12th night at the Gemelli Hospital.

Pope Francis is arguably one of the most progressive popes to lead the Catholic Church. His position on LGBTQ+ people shook up centuries of negative views of the community. Admittedly, he still makes missteps when discussing certain topics.
