Harvard Library announced this month that it had removed human skin from the binding of its 1880s copy of "Des destinées de l’âme" by Arsène Houssaye, which was held at the Houghton Library.
Harvard University has removed human skin binding from a book that has been in its library collection for 90 years and apologized for its “past failures” in managing the volume.
The library apologised, saying that it had “further objectified and compromised the dignity of the human being whose remains were used for its binding”.
