Not since 1963 has a rocket flown into space with an all-female crew. That changes this spring when a crew made up of all women will be launched on board the New Shepard spacecraft from Texas, USA Today reported.

Blue Origin’s New Shepard will launch from West Texas with its first all-women crew, including Gayle King and Katy Perry, this spring.

Bezos’ rocket company Blue Origin announced the all-female celebrity crew on Thursday. Sanchez, a helicopter pilot and former TV journalist, picked the crew who will join her on a 10-minute spaceflight from West Texas,

Approximately 1,400 of Blue Origin's nearly 14,000 employees are being cut, primarily affecting workers in Florida, Texas, and Washington state, the media outlet reported. The layoffs come as the company ramps up production of its massive New Glenn rocket,

Blue Origin is targeting next Tuesday (Feb. 25) for its 10th space tourism mission, which will send six people to the final frontier. If all goes according to plan, Blue Origin 's suborbital New Shepard vehicle will lift off from the company's West Texas site on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. EST (1630 GMT; 9:30 a.m. local Texas time).

Pop star Katy Perry is set to "shoot across the sky" this spring when she lifts off as part of a six-member, all-female crew on Blue Origin's next space flight.
