The power struggle within the NDGOP between Republican candidates and party leaders who want more control over those candidates could make its way into the courts.

North Dakota’s only U.S. House seat and a potential statewide vote on making school meals free for students are likely to be the top races in 2026, but there are many more. More than half of the Legislature’s seats are up for election, and there are local races for seats on school boards, judgeships and other positions.

GRANDIN, N.D. — A Cass County farmer has announced his campaign for the North Dakota Legislature. Ross Lockhart, a Democrat from Grandin, said Wednesday, Jan. 7, that he will seek to represent District 45 in the North Dakota House. The district covers northeast Cass County, including parts of north Fargo and West Fargo.
