Why 49ers' early unbeaten NFC West record bodes well for Super Bowl LX chances
An early unbeaten NFC West record bodes well for the San Francisco 49ers' chances of a Super Bowl LX appearance.
Not only were the 49ers missing Purdy, Nick Bosa (who is out for the season with a torn ACL) and star tight end George Kittle (who landed on injured reserve after Week 1), but also wide receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings.
ESPN's Marcus Spears explained why Mac Jones was successful with his performance in the 49ers' win over the Rams.
Jones was only playing because Brock Purdy, the quarterback signed to a $265 million contract in the offseason, had been hurt in the season opener, and in the process joined a rash of big names sidelined by injury — from Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, to the Giants’ Malik Nabers, to potentially two-time MVP Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, as well.
With Purdy ruled out, Mac Jones will get the nod. Jones has played in two games, completing 53 of 80 passes (66.3%) for 563 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception. In a 26-21 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 14, he completed 26 of 39 passes (66.7%) for 279 yards and three touchdowns.
Frustrated NFL fans ripped the performance of Al Michaels in the Rams-49ers game and believe he should retire now.
