Oregon State University’s new wave-energy testing facility off the coast of Newport could be kicking out its first volts of electricity by next fall.

The scandal-entrenched Oregon Coast Military Museum remains closed after the resignation of former board president, Gary Cannon, and his son, former museum director Geoffrey Cannon, 27. The museum has a new board of directors that is planning to reopen, according to a news release.

In late August, at least a dozen earthquakes struck South Carolina in the Greenwood County area within roughly one week.

A Magnitude 5.9 earthquake rumbled off the Oregon Coast at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The relatively large temblor, taking place some 230 miles west of Bandon, was followed by another, possibly related Magnitude 3.0 quake nearby in the Pacific Ocean.

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake was detected off the Oregon Coast Sept. 25. The earthquake occurred at 11:45 p.m. approximately 143 miles off the coast of Bandon, and at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the Oregon Coast late Thursday night, with 20 people feeling the effects and a 61% chance of aftershocks of magnitude 3 or greater.
