A young woman gave birth to a baby girl on a New York City subway Wednesday and an eyewitness caught it on video.

A 25-year-old woman from Florida gave birth on a W train in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning. She had been missing since last summer, her sister said.

Births are rare on New York City's transit system, but not unheard of. In 2012, Wanda Dueno, 24, went into labor on the J train near Chambers Street and gave birth to a baby boy. And in January 1993, 21 year old Vida Boateng gave birth to a baby girl at the Wall Street subway station on the 3 line.

A packed train in Manhattan quickly turned into a delivery room and straphangers became midwives, as riders banded together to deliver a baby when the mother went into labor while aboard the subway. The 25-year-old went into labor while she was aboard an uptown W train at the 34th Street Herald Square stop around 11:30 a.

The NYC subway welcomed what may be its youngest rider ever after a woman gave birth on the W train. ABC 7 reports that a 25-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl on Feb. 13 around 11:30 AM on a southbound W train.

A few months pregnant and diagnosed with schizophrenia, the woman disappeared in late 2024. Her mother and sister were shocked to see a TikTok video where she appeared giving birth on Wednesday aboard a subway train in NYC.
