School closings, including for Chicago Public Schools, are in effect in Chicago, Illinois and Northwest Indiana ahead of frigid temperatures that prompted an Extreme Cold Warning.

With parts of the Chicago area dealing with heavy snow Sunday and with the prospect of frigid wind chills Monday, some schools are switching to e-learning.

For Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, the following schools will be closed or have a delayed start due to extreme weather and potentially hazardous road conditions. This list will be updated as closings or delays are announced. Meadow Montessori School - Closed. Childcare will be open.

INDIANAPOLIS — Some central Indiana schools have announced plans to operated on delayed schedules Tuesday morning. As of 6:02 p.m., more than 20 schools had entered delays in FOX59/CBS4’s closings systems.

Officials have already started announcing school closures across the country for Monday as a major winter storm is set to hit.

Schools are closing or operating remotely and warming shelters are opening their doors as temperatures in Northwest Indiana are expected to plunge into the negative single digits Friday and wind chills as low as -28 are predicted,
