Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon has revealed there is a “mixture of weather on the way for Northern Ireland this week, with a westerly influence bringing periods of showers, sunny spells and even a chance of a touch of snow over high ground”.

High winds have caused disruption across Northern Ireland going into the weekend - with some roads closed by fallen trees and winds up to 70mph expected on Sunday.

A yellow alert for wind also came into force between 3am and 6am for Northern Ireland, while a second warning covering much of Britain came into effect three hours later and was set to last until 6pm, with the Met Office warning of “very strong winds” of up to 70mph.

Southerly winds are expected to increase through Sunday morning, peaking late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph (80-95 kmh), and perhaps as much as 70mph (112kmh) on the exposed Irish Sea coastline and some other areas of high ground.

A weather warning for wind is now in force across parts of Northern Ireland and there has been disruption to travel with roads closed due to fallen trees and some flights cancelled.

Our weather may have had more of a feel of spring about it over the last few days, but wind and rain has still featured for some. On Friday, while the likes of Hull, Thetford and Nairn hit 17 Celsius (63F) many western areas were lashed with gales and rain at times.
