While the Switch 2 got off to a blockbuster start when it was released, things have slowed to the point where Nintendo now has to acknowledge what’s happening and why.

I Stuck My Face Into Nintendo's New Virtual Boy and Felt Oddly Comforted

Investors are weighing the impact of rising memory prices and the strength of Nintendo’s games pipeline ahead of the Switch 2.

The recreated Virtual Boy may represent a new era of Nintendo, or at least the company’s willingness to respect its past failures. For the $100 recreation of the nearly 31-year-old virtual reality console, Nintendo isn’t just handing us a toy that’s a nostalgia trip wrapped around a Switch 2 accessory.

Nintendo is bringing back the Virtual Boy and it's certainly faithful, if nothing else.

To close out the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Xbox subsidiary Bethesda showed up to confirm the release dates for Nintendo Switch 2 ports of Fallout 4, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Update [Thu 5th Feb 2026, 6:15am]: The PEGI rating from earlier today might have spoiled the surprise for this one a little bit, but the Nintendo Direct just confirmed that Hollow Knight - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is, indeed, shadow dropping today!
