A man has died in a weather-related incident as Storm Amy continues to batter the UK - gusts of 96mph were recorded by the Met Office over the weekend

A powerful storm has hit the U.K. and Ireland, causing major disruptions. London’s Royal Parks closed on Saturday due to severe winds.

Gardaí reported that a man died during the storm, which also brought localised flooding, fallen trees, transport disruption and school closures.

Yellow weather warnings remain in place for Northern Ireland with Storm Amy bringing high winds and rain into the weekend. Weather forecasters say the storm will bring damaging winds, with every county under weather warning and wind speeds could reach up to 80mph along the most exposed coastal areas,

The Met Office has warned that winds of up to 70mph could hit areas along the north coast on Saturday, with strong gusts of 45-55mph expected across the rest of Northern Ireland. Further flooding is possible, and travel is likely to be disrupted.

Schools across a large part of Northern Ireland have been told to close early as Storm Amy brings damaging winds to the island. Forecasters predict the storm will bring damaging winds, with every county under weather warnings on Friday.
