NBC has long held the U.S. broadcast rights to the Olympics. When its contract with the IOC was last extended in 2014, NBC would have covered a total of 23 Olympic Games by 2032. The network first broadcast an Olympics in 1964, when the Summer Games were held in Tokyo.

By securing the broadcast rights for the 2034 Salt Lake City Games, the network locks down two Olympics in the U.S. in the next decade.

Comcast is paying $3 billion to extend its Olympics rights deal through 2036. The renewal with the International Olympic Committee will give two more Olympic Games to NBCUniversal, including the 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City/Utah and the 2036 Summer Games in a city to be determined.
