Severe Thunderstorms, Including A Few Tornadoes, Possible In Ozarks, Mississippi Valley
We haven't had many severe thunderstorms in the U.S. this month. But that may change this weekend. Here's our latest forecast regarding a threat for damaging winds, hail and even a few tornadoes.
A few severe storms will be possible starting late tonight in Alabama. Damaging winds, heavy rain and a brief tornado will all be possible, according to the National Weather Service. West Alabama will have the best chance at seeing stronger storms, and the threat is expected to decrease as you head eastward.
A powerful cold front will sweep across central Pennsylvania today, bringing gusty winds and potentially severe rain showers with a slight tornado risk in the Lower Susquehanna Valley. The National Weather Service warns residents to expect wind gusts up to 60 mph and rain showers developing late this afternoon through early evening.
A cold front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to the area overnight, with a line of stronger storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and a tornado or two, followed by clearing conditions and temperatures in the lower 80s on Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service team in Grand Rapids, we should expect scattered storms this afternoon. Strong to severe storms are more likely to crop up south of I-96. The timing for these are expected to be 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Rain and storms could linger into the day on Sunday in Alabama, but cooler and drier weather will take over by Sunday night, and parts of Alabama could drop to the 40s by Monday morning. Severe weather isn’t expected during the day on Sunday, and there will be little rain for the rest of the week.
