The Senate will vote Monday on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act that would withhold federal funding to schools that permit transgender athletes.

Multiple women athletes have sent their pleas to Democratic senators to vote in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act on Monday.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) will move Thursday on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act — with a procedural vote planned for Monday, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Georgia House of Representatives on Thursday adopted its own version of legislation that would limit transgender student competition in school sports, making the final passage of a law on the topic more likely after a similar bill passed the Senate earlier this month.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Elizabeth Caruso, would also require school bathrooms be male or female only.
