French President Emmanuel Macron does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants peace. "Do I think President Putin wants peace? The answer is no," Macron said on Sunday at his summer residence in Bormes-les-Mimosas in southern France following a video conference with European leaders.

After a meeting at the White House on Monday, the French president said that if there is no progress in talks, Russia should be hit with more sanctions.

The remarks were a considerable shift for France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, who called Moscow a potential threat for many European countries.
