October baseball is here! Major League Baseball’s postseason will officially get underway on Tuesday, September 30 with the start of the Wild Card Series. The field for the postseason came down to the final day of the regular season with the Reds locking up the final playoff spot in the National League due to winning the season series against the Mets. The Brewers and the Phillies secured the top two seeds in the National League and will receive first round byes. The Cubs will host the Padres in the 4-5 matchup while the Reds will travel to Los Angeles to take on the defending champion Dodgers. Over in the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners will receive first round byes as the top two seeds. The Tigers will travel to Cleveland to take on the surging Guardians in an AL Central matchup. The other AL Wild Card series will feature another postseason matchup between the Red Sox and the Yankees. The Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds completed the playoff picture in grand style. They'll be among 12 teams seeking to win the World Series.

There will be stars aplenty in the Division Series of the Major League Baseball playoffs. The Wild Card round is behind us, with the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers all advancing to the next round. Each of those squads will take on a team that got some extra rest by earning a bye into the Division Series.

And then there were eight. The Wild Card round of the 2025 MLB postseason is over, and the four teams that survived are now advancing to face the four teams that earned the right to skip the line and go right to the Division Series.

In the American League, the New York Yankees face the division champion Toronto Blue Jays while the Seattle Mariners take on the Detroit Tigers. The Brewers-Cubs NLDS is also filled with storylines, namely Chicago manager Craig Counsell facing his former club in the postseason after skipping town in 2023.

The pennant winner with the better regular season record receives home-field advantage in the World Series, regardless of how the teams were seeded for the postseason. If the two pennant winners finished with the same regular season record, then a tiebreaker determines home-field advantage for the Fall Classic, in this order listed below:

The Yankees will turn to right-hander Cam Schlittler. The 24-year-old started 14 times during the regular season after joining the big-league rotation in July. He amassed a 2.96 ERA (138 ERA+) and a 2.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio, contributing an estimated 2 Wins Above Replacement.
