New York Yankees hit franchise record nine home runs, make MLB history in win against Tampa Bay Rays
The New York Yankees crushed a franchise record-tying nine home runs in a dominant 13-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB .com, that makes the Yankees the first team in Major League Baseball history with multiple nine-homer games, period. The fact that they did so twice in the same season is the type of baseball oddity that makes the game so fun to watch.
Giancarlo Stanton keeps on climbing. The New York Yankees' slugger has moved up another spot on the MLB all-time home run leaderboard. When he hit his second homer of the night Tuesday, Stanton passed Dave Kingman to move into 43rd place in major league history.
It was just the fourth time a big league team has hit nine or more homers in a game. The record is 10, set by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sept. 14, 1987.
The Yankees continued their uptick in form in powerful fashion by demolishing the Rays on Tuesday, 13-3, thanks to their HR fest.
