The Texas-Mexico border is scorching under a record-setting heat wave, with temperatures soaring past 100 degrees, making it Earth's hottest spot today.
In Texas, a large area of the state is expected to experience temperatures up 15 to 25 degrees above normal — into the 90s and 100s in all but a few locations.
An extreme heat warning has been issued for a large part of central Texas as an early season heat wave sends temperatures soaring.
Humidity-driven heat index values, thanks to southerly winds off the Gulf of Mexico, will climb to near and above 100 degrees in Houston.
Texas Agricultural Commissioner Sid Miller said the heat may break records this week, but farmers are prepared for the weather.
"It will feel hot and dry initially before eventually becoming muggy and possibly even downright oppressive across the area," read a forecast discussion from the weather service. "Multiple records in jeopardy of being broken," it added.
A heat wave moving across Texas is expected to peak tomorrow with a high of 101 degrees for Dallas-Fort Worth.
