President Donald Trump said Sunday he views his Ukrainian counterpart Volodomyr Zelensky as “calmer” and more interested in reaching a peace accord following their sit-down inside the Vatican this weekend.

The United States has been pushing Ukraine to accept a peace plan that seems in part a gift to Moscow. But the short meeting of the leaders, and subsequent comments, appeared to be a change in tone.

The office of President Zelensky shared a picture of Trump and Zelensky engaged in conversation at St. Peter’s Basilica.
