This tiara was presented by the ‘Girls of Great Britain and Ireland’ to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, later Queen Mary, on her wedding in 1893. In 1947 Queen Mary gave it to her granddaughter, Princess Elizabeth, as a wedding present. The tiara has become one of The Queen’s most recognisable jewels, thanks to Dorothy Wilding’s portraits and its appearance on British and Commonwealth coinage and banknotes.
