When pain doesn’t have clear medical evidence, clinicians may take it less seriously. In this experimental study, 98 clinicians (GPs and physiotherapists) watched videos of patients with pain and rated their symptoms. When medical evidence for the pain was absent, clinicians rated patients as having less pain, less interference, and felt less sympathy—and were more likely to suspect deception. Psychosocial factors (like stress or depression) also led to lower pain ratings in some scenarios. The
