The moon's shadow raced across the line of totality at a speed close to 1,500 mph as it crossed over the western portion of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our latest 'Smoky Mountain Minute' showcases the view of the Solar Eclipse from the Clingmans Dome tower. The Solar Eclipse lasted about a minute and 3 seconds at this location, from which GSMA was granted access to the tower. We took advantage of the moment to capture the shadow moving over the landscape from a few different angles. | S

Clingmans Dome Tower to reopen Monday

As of yesterday (5/19) Clingmans Dome road has been opened for vehicle access. This iconic Smokies destination features an observation tower with 360º views from the park's highest peak (6,643’ above sea level). This attraction makes Clingmans Dome one of the most visited locations in the park. When planning your visit, starting your day early or arriving later in the day can help to avoid large crowds.
