In 1952, she scored a #1 Country hit with her answer song "I Let the Stars Get in My Eyes", which was co-written by her brother Tommy Hill. In the early 1960s, she recorded two albums for Decca Records. She regularly performed on the Louisiana Hayride, the Grand Ole Opry and the Ozark Jubilee. She married country singer Carl Smith in 1957 and the couple had two sons (Carl, Jr. and Larry Dean), and one daughter (Lori Lynn).
