Today marks 150 years since the dedication of Holy Name Cathedral and the beginning of our 150th anniversary year as the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Chicago. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 leveled Holy Name Parish and much of the neighborhood, it was decided that a new church would be constructed to serve as the official Cathedral for the growing archdiocese.
