Here’s how we’re tackling rhyming skills in April. Even though we talk about it all year, this month we’re doing explicit lessons on rhyming. Two of my favorite rhyming books are The Rhyming Dust Bunnies and Dog on a Frog. I also use a blending board with letters we already know so kids can swap out the first sound and see how the word changes (and still rhymes). Our big hands-on activity is “Rhyming Houses”: each child gets a picture/word square to place in the correct house. I scaffold as need
