Every single student can borrow a federal direct student loan… as long as they are enrolled at at least halftime. However, the amounts they can borrow are limited based on year in school.  direct student loans are guaranteed and not based on credit, the only way a student can get denied is if he she is currently in default on another federal direct student loan.
