While scuba diving my favorite Cretaceous exposure , I Found what I thought was just another piece of bone, but it turned out to be an incredible fossil find! This is a section of Mosasaurus jaw, complete with a partial tooth still embedded. It’s not every day that you see these come out of North Carolina! The Mosasaurus was one of the apex predators of the world’s oceans during the Cretaceous period until they went extinct 66 million years ago. #fossil #cretaceous #paleontology #mosasaurus #meg
